As fans across the world gear up for the sequel to the Disney original smash, Hocus Pocus, some have been keeping busy recreating the magic we all love and enjoy.
We're all getting the hang of staying indoors and keeping safe from the COVID-19 outbreak. The pandemic swept through the streets of every country, shutting down any group activities - including Hollywood projects. Among those projects was the beloved cult classic, Hocus Pocus' sequel coming soon. Hocus Pocus 2 is happening exclusively on Disney+ despite the original struggling to catch wind at the box office back in 1993. But in the world of streaming today, with content continually at our fingertips, the witches were not without its fans. In fact, in nearly thirty years since its release, it has garnered quite the cult following.
Variety reported, "Sources say that ideally the trio of actresses will reprise their roles, rather than having to completely reboot the first film." During this time, it was also revealed that Workaholics' co-producer and writer Jen D'Angelo was set to write the script. Then word got out she was also tasked with bringing the three original stars, Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy, back to their roles.
For their parts, Midler and Najimy both want to appear in the sequel. Midler joked, "Oh my goodness me. Oh I hope they get to me before I'm a corpse." She was all smiles. "We wanna fly again. I hope Disney+ is a big success and I hope we get to do it, because [Winifred Sanderson] is of course one of my favorite characters."
Later, Adam Shankman was added as the film's Director, who is best known for his movie adaptation of Hairspray. Shankman is also in pre-production on an Enchanted sequel called Disenchanted.
But what can we watch in the meantime? Fans from around the world have been recreating scenes from Hocus Pocus to bring the Sanderson Sisters back to life.
Check out the first look of "I'll Put a Spell on You," originally made popular by Midler, to get a taste of the fun. The Hovid Povid team tells us to stay tuned for the full film release coming this Friday.
Halloween is around the corner and though many say it's cancelled, that's all just a bunch of hocus pocus. Come. We fly!
