Earlier this year at Brandon Studios' New Year’s party, The Getaway Los Angeles (or TGLA for short) stars Matt Sarafa and Cliff Watson confronted one another and things got explosive.
TGLA follows a group of friends who are looking to build their professional endeavors. The core of the group consists of transplants from across the nation, moving to Los Angeles to pursue a better life - not only in their careers but in their personal lives too.
During the course of the first season, two LGBTQ+ cast members bumped heads due to some friction at a pride festival many years ago.
Sarafa is a fashion designer, best known for his run on Project Runway Juniors. He has since gone on to style Tyra Banks, Kyle Richards (his godmother), and more. When we first met him on the show, he was sitting down for lunch with Brandon Stewart. The duo, arguably the two most influential names in the cast, really set the tone for the show, unveiling that Sarafa is new to the group. A group that was poised to be trusting and kind, according to Stewart, and that included newbie Watson.
Watson doesn't come from the entertainment industry. First introduced through the confrontational Severin Velazquez, it didn't take long for the audience to fall in love with him. During his debut on television, fans got a peek into the struggle of losing a father, when Watson opened up to a friend about the ups and downs.
Watson is tough, couragious, and spicy. Sarafa is fashionable, often unbothered, and comedic. Two personalities that were destined for greatness in the first season. And greatness is just what we recieved when they didn't seem to see eye to eye.
On New Years Eve, Stewart hosted a party at his studios, where an exclusive guest list attended in celebration of 2024. A year that Stewart told us would "blow up the network." And we believe him after what surfaced.
Though cameras weren’t initially rolling, crew attending the party didn’t take long to set up and capture the heated exchange between Watson and Sarafa. Some of the clips from what were captured have been teased on Stewart's late night talk show. The talk show Obsessed opened the viewer's eyes to some serious guilty pleasure television. It was crazy.
If you missed all of that, don't worry, we have a clip handy to refresh your memory.
In a recent video interview with Front Page Pop, Sarafa dishes on what really happened… well, sort of.
“That was an ugly night…,” Matt admitted.
“That is certainly not how I wanted to start my 2024,” he continued.
“It was not started by me whatsoever. I showed up there ready to have a good time," he told FPP. "As I’m on my way out, [Cliff] is starting with me screaming from across the room,” he claimed.
“Patience can only take you so far,” explained Matt. When we asked Stewart separately to comment about his recollection of the night, he quips, "I have no words."
Stewart was known to be the nucleous in the first season. He was the bridge between all of the friends within the group. Watson being one of them.
Sarafa continued in his interview with FPP, "...once it started hitting social media, I was embarrassed about it. It’s not..." he took a pause, "it’s not me," he admits.
“If you listen to it, the voice that was coming out of me was demonic, that was a full blown man,” he jokes.
Sarafa did share that the blow-up is more featured in Season 2 of the series, along with some personal big life announcements and changes. He hinted that there would be a little cast shake up as well. So we will all have to tune in to see how the chain reaction of this explosive fight affects the group's dynamic. Catch up on the series, available to stream on Brandon TV, and follow Obsessed on social media to get the latest.
Currently, there are 5 episodes of TGLA streaming on Brandon TV. The remaining episodes will begin dropping this Summer followed by a second season.
The series was created and Executive Produced by Joel Parent and Stewart, and produced by Justice Bowens. The second season adds Quentin T. Harris, Lisa McGilvray, and Michelle Blosser. Harris is also named the new show-runner. The series is in association with XRM Media.
