The famous dance coach, Dianna Williams returns to reality television with a new show The Dolls on Brandon TV that premiered on Sunday, June 23. The highly-anticipated premiere was shown a lot of love from fans, blogs, and critics alike.
After the trailer went viral with millions of views across social media, on hundreds of different accounts that shared the clip, there’s no wonder why fans everywhere are talking about Dianna and her Dancing Dolls.
The series premiere picks up right where the 3-part reunion special, Dianna, leaves off. She is balancing her life as a mother and a coach, returning from Jackson, Mississippi where she met with former Dancing Doll Parents (DDPs), just days before the Dancing Dolls have auditions.
Episode one is full of everything you could want in a new series debut: the perfect mix of drama, heartfelt emotion, and laughs. We got to know two Dancing Dolls and the many facets of their lives both in the studio and at home with their families.
One is Ke’Angela Jones, (known as KeKe), who you may remember from the reunion special. The series is sure to unfold her many layers throughout, but the first episode made her a relatable fan favorite. While struggling with her self-confidence on and off the dance floor, her teammates, coaches, and grandmother fight to keep her on the team and out of trouble.
Her grandmother sure is tough on her, but it’s clear she means well and is doing what is best for KeKe.
The second Dancing Doll we meet, and at great length, is Destiny Sykes.
Sykes is the only remaining captain for the Dancing Dolls team. We get a glimpse into the stress she feels balancing school, family, and her demanding dance schedule. She and her mom have such a fun relationship. You even get a sense that she may be the HBIC Dancing Dolls parent, looking to stir up some trouble down the line.
And we just might be here for it.
The show also discusses some issues surrounding favoritism on the team.
Head coach, Jenear Kidd, has her daughter, Jalea Kidd, on the team; who is also trying out for one of the newly free captain positions alongside Sykes. Whether or not the favoritism critique is valid, is yet to be determined, but it’s sure to cause some drama this season. What really sets this show apart from its predecessor Bring It, is that Dianna Williams is helping steer the ship. Williams holds a bit more control with her Executive Producer credit, and you get to see a variety of new dynamics, including her own family that provides more insight on her husband, Robert Williams, and her son, Cobe Williams. Parents everywhere can relate, as she struggles to balance work and family life with a teen son that will be off to college soon. Many questions remain on how the dynamics will shift and where her focus will land.
Do yourself a favorite and tune in to The Dolls on Brandon TV! Episode 2 will premiere on Sunday, June 30. Be sure to follow Obsessed and on Instagram for the latest updates.
